June 2017 Meeting

June 14, 2017
The Barn in Mariemont
President Abby Graham presiding

Summer is upon us, and you know what that means! Bright colors, yummy fabrics and loads of inspiration to spark your creativity! We had loads of inspiration at our June meeting with the debut of the Iron Quilter Challenge projects, a fun thread swap and of course gorgeous show and tell projects!

Guild News

After many requests, we have decided to host a garment class to make the “Marianne Dress” pattern by Christine Haynes. We will learn to make this dress using knits, and you will have the option to make a full sleeve, half sleeve or ¾ length sleeve. What a versatile pattern!

We may plan to have a “Knits 101” class to learn more about working with knits to prepare for this class. Sign-ups for the Marianne Dress class will be next month at the July meeting. We will cap this class at 20, so be sure to reserve your spot!

We also plan to have Tracy Sews teach a Woven Dress class in January 2018. More details to come!

Quilt Con Charity Quilt Update

The Quilt Con Charity Quilt theme for next year’s event is Modern Traditionalism. We ask for volunteers as well as a chair person to head this project up. We will need help sewing the quilt top, quilting, pattern design and binding. If you have interest in participating, please feel free to contact Abby or another guild officer.

CMQG Swaps- June & July

Everyone had a great time swapping their favorite threads at the June meeting!

Let’s see if we can have an even better turnout for the July swap! We will be holding a notions swap. Bring one of your favorite quilting notions ($9-$15) in a concealed bag for a chance to discover something innovative and new! This is a great opportunity to try a new product and possibly learn new techniques.

Charity Update

The pillow cases for the Children’s Home in Northern Kentucky have been delivered! Thank you to all who participated. Giving back to the kids, and giving them fun pillow cases is worth every stitch.

We will also be donating the 2017 Quilt Con charity quilt in Brooke’s name. We hope that this quilt raises generous funds for the Children’s Home.

Erin has very graciously decided to donate her bee blocks to the HART animal rescue charity. This will be our next charity project. You can see details below.

Hives 1 & 2

Both Hives 1 & 2 are welcome to participate on these bee blocks as Erin’s bee blocks will be for charity. Erin is requesting these adorable dog blocks for a donation quilt for HART. She made the following requests for a cohesive quilt.

1)      Use solid white for the background and eyes
2)      Use solid black for eyes
3)      Use solid light pink for ears
4)      Use a low volume print or bright color for the dog face

Please let Erin know if you have any questions! We would love to see lots of participation on this project.
